Leander ISD's Vision is that "Students will exit our system with the same passion for learning they had when they entered, without economics determining success. Every Option Open."

New Secured Reception Area
Welcome to the 2016-17 school year! We are thrilled to have your students back in our building. During the summer, we’ve made some changes to the entryway of our building and want you to be aware of what these changes mean for you and your child.
Student safety is our top priority, and last year the district conducted an extensive month long, districtwide security audit. One recommendation that came from the audit was to renovate the front entryways to some of our campuses in order to create a single point of entry at each school. After reviewing best practices, the district moved forward with renovations to our front entryway to better control access to our building.
Beginning this school year, our school has a new secured receptionist area, and as a result, we will have changes to our campus entry process. Now all campus visitors will present their driver’s license to the receptionist at the Visitors’ Service Window in the secured receptionist area. At the Visitor’s Service Window, all visitors, with proof of identification, will be checked in through the visitor management system (Raptor), screened against the national registry of sex offenders, and once processed, given a “visitor badge” with their photo before they can enter the school beyond the secured receptionist area. The campus receptionist will be seated in the front vestibule behind the Visitors’ Service Window, with a line of sight to the front perimeter of our building as people approach the campus.
The renovations and changes to our campus-entry processes will enhance student safety by improving the surveillance, monitoring and tracking of everyone who attempts to enter our schools. No one will be able to enter our campus without getting access from front office personnel. As a result of these changes, it will likely take parents and other campus visitors more time to check in at the Visitors’ Service Window, so please allow extra time when you visit our school.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we all adjust to this new campus entry process. I wanted you to be aware of the change so you can plan accordingly. We look forward to having you on our campus!
LISD Bus Route Information Available Online Aug. 10
On Aug. 10, Leander ISD parents can enter their home address into Infofinder i, an online tool available on the LISD website, to look up their child’s bus number and pick-up/drop-off times and locations for the coming school year. In an effort to reduce expenses and ensure real-time accuracy, the district does not print and distribute bus route schedules prior to the start of school. Bus routes are subject to change, and so LISD parents are strongly encouraged to confirm their child’s bus information again the week prior to the start of school, Aug. 15-19. For transportation questions, please call 512-570-0700.
Site-Based Planning Committees Need You!
Each campus within Leander ISD has a Site-Based Planning Committee (SBPC). These committees are composed of district employees, community members, business representatives and parents. SBPC members provide input to the principal on a wide variety of subjects, with an aim of improving the achievement of all students. The committees address such areas as planning, curriculum, budgeting, staff development, staffing patterns and school organization. Elections for parent representatives are held every fall. Parents can only serve as a parent representative at the campus where they have a child attending school. If you would like to find out more information about the council, run for one of the parent seats or nominate someone for one of the seats, please call the campus your student attends no later than Friday, September 2.
Student Transfer Requests for 2016-17 School Year
Voluntary student transfers will be permitted to transfer to other elementary campuses within the district on a space- and staff-available basis. Children who currently attend the campus as a 4th-grader, either as a zoned student or as a transfer student, will be permitted to attend the current campus as a 5th-grade transfer in the next school year, and siblings will be permitted to transfer in on a space- and staff-available basis.
All requests to transfer/remain as a transfer must be submitted by the priority deadline date (March 20, 2016) each year in order to be considered, INCLUDING this year's 4th-graders.

LISD Reminds Families that Missing School Matters
Student absenteeism is a concern for school districts statewide, including LISD. It is estimated that Central Texas students are absent 2.4 million days of school. All absences, whether excused or unexcused, are a lost opportunity to learn. Families can help reinforce the value of education by keeping a few things in mind:
- Don’t make others sick. If your child is ill, he or she should stay home.
- Try to schedule appointments when they are least disruptive to learning.
- If your child must miss school for a medical appointment, get a note from his or her child.
- Use the LISD calendar, available at www.leanderisd.org, to plan trips and vacations to line up with school holidays.
- Remember that every absence is a lost opportunity to learn.
- Absences cost your child’s school about $40 per day (per absent student) in state funding.
Make school a family priority.

drop off/pick up safety
We need your support in ensuring the safety of our students during morning and afternoon drop off/pick up. Please remember to drive slowly and only in the designated direction. Recently vehicles are moving fast, going the wrong direction, and people are texting or talking on their phone. This creates a very dangerous situation for the entire school community. Please be patient and come early if you are in a rush. If car lines are long when the tardy bell rings in the morning or the weather is bad, we do not issue tardies. Thank you for helping us keep our students safe. ~ Mrs. Hawthorn, Principal
NOTES FROM Nurse Susan
Parents: Please remember these very important LISD policies for illness! If your child is running a fever of 100 or greater, vomiting or having diarrhea before school, they need to be kept at home until all symptoms are gone without the use of any medications. This is to protect not only the other children in your child's classroom, but your child as well. If they are already compromised with an illness, sending them into school only lengthens that illness and opens the door for new contagions to be picked up. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in helping to keep all of our Comets healthy!
Update Phone and contact info with our Registrar – In the event of illness or emergency or when we need to be able to reach
a parent as soon as possible! Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
As always, please feel free to contact me with any concerns or questions you might have regarding your child's health.

Learn more and register!
The district's online tool, txConnect, allows LISD parents to easily monitor their child's achievement throughout the school year. LISD parents can use txConnect to access their child's grades and assignments, view and print their child's interim progress reports and report cards, view their child's STAAR results, immunizations, attendance and student discipline reports. And beginning this year, parents can use txConnect to view, update and print first-day packet forms. Connecting to your child's learning through txConnect is a simple, two-step process.
